WIRD Jake Smith Memorial Sports Medicine Scholarship

WIRD started a scholarship in 2014 to support female students graduating from Oak Harbor High School and pursuing a degree in a sports medicine field.

In early 2018, WIRD was deeply saddened by the loss of our #1 fan, Jake Smith.

Jake had been a huge fan since the league was founded in 2010, and came to home games until his family left Whidbey Island and moved to Snohomish County. Jake remained our #1 fan, and we became his #1 fans.

In 2018, WIRD voted to honor Jake by naming our scholarship after him.

We award this scholarship annually to an OHHS graduating senior pursuing a career in sports medicine or a related field.
